PACE Panel Discussion with NASA astronaut and former Chief of the Astronaut Office of NASA, Christopher Cassidy

November 10, 2017

PACE (Program for Acceleration in Careers of Engineering), is a science and engineering program in which professionals volunteer their time to work with mainly African-American and Hispanic high school students to help prepare them for college and technical careers. These students meet every Saturday morning during the school year at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ.

Members Ephrath Tesfaye, Anthony Scruse, Lyndsey McMillon-Brown and Charles Brown of the Yale League of Black Scientists, along with the Yale chapter of NSBE hosted an incredibly informative panel discussion on topics such as:

1. Is it easy to work with the school in customizing the program to your specific needs?

2. What are some of the barriers or challenges you face as a graduate student? How do you overcome those barriers?

3. How are your graduate school programs being funded? Fellowships? Scholarships? Assistantships? How do you find funding to pay for the graduate programs?

4. What type of experiences as an undergraduate will be most relevant to the admission board?

5. How is social life around campus? Or the student community?

6. Recommendations or advice when looking for a graduate school program.

The students certainly left feeling more inspired than ever!
