DiversiTeas - Author Jeff Hobbs and Dr. Thomas Hocker

April 20, 2016

DiversiTeas is a speaker series established at Yale to highlight issues of diversity in the STEM fields. The program was created through a joint effort of undergraduate students, graduate students (Yale League of Black Scientists, included), and faculty at Yale. By bringing in scientists, authors, and other experts on issues around diversity we hope to spark meaningful discussions to create a more inclusive environment on campus.

Alongside Professor of Physics, Simon Mochrie and Director of Faculty Teaching Initiatives, Nancy Niemi, best-selling Author Jeff Hobbs and Dr. Thomas Hocker (both Yale graduates) led a discussion on race and identity at Yale, moderated by Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Anjelica Gonzalez. This event facilitated fruitful discussion between STEM students and faculty regarding the ways in which one’s membership in various underrepresented groups affects interactions with others on campus.
